Queen Elizabeth II was born on the 21st April 1926 during the reign of her grandfather George V. Her father the Duke of York later became king George VI. Elizabeth and her sister, Margaret (born in 1930) were homeschooled.
Elizabeth took public duty during the second world war, where she served in the Territorial auxiliary service. In 1947, the married Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh. When her father died in 1952, Elizabeth II became Head of the Commonwealth and Queen regnant at age 25. She is the longest serving monarch and was the first British monarch to ever celebrate their sapphire jubilee after 65 years on the throne
