About

The Dumbarton Castle, built by Alexander II of Scotland in the 1220s, has been used as a strong fortress from the Middle Ages to the Second World War. This fortress was built on volcanic rock with two twin peaks rising almost vertical to the sky. There were fortifications built for the castle in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries which is all that survived of the castle until today, there is nothing left of what was built in the Dark Ages. The castle was the capital of a kingdom’s area which is now called Strathclyde.
