About

Edinburgh Castle, Scotland’s most popular tourist attraction and also the most besieged castle in Europe, has royal connections that go back a thousand years. The area it was built in used to be where St Margaret’s Chapel was built around 1130. The castle was mainly used as a military base since the fifteenth century, because of this there were many things added to the castle including a half moon battery, a large garrison, and a jail for prisoners of war. It is still currently used as an active base and now also contains three military museums.
