About

Rod Folkes joined Gordon Russell during the Second World War, starting as a Shopping Boy and eventually working on wood cutting machines. During the war, Rod helped machine parts for de Havilland Mosquito fighter-bomber wings and ammunition boxes, with a workforce largely made up of women. After the war, he continued in the Machine Shop, contributing to large projects like the 2,000 chairs for Coventry Cathedral. Rod worked at Gordon Russell until 1991, and at 95, he reflected fondly on his long career.
